"Schüler treffen Experten" - Info-Veranstaltung an der HIB

Unter dem Motto „Schüler treffen Experten“ findet vom 22. November bis 8. Dezember 2011 eine praxisnahe Berufsinformation der Heidelberger Rotary Clubs statt.

Dabei handelt es sich nicht um eine Studieninformation im engeren Sinn. Ziel ist es Einblicke in die Arbeitswelt und in die Berufspraxis zu geben und dadurch bei der Wahl des Studienfaches und der Berufsfindung zu helfen.

Vom 24. November bis 8. Dezember 2011 sind Termine vor Ort vorgesehen.

Am Donnerstag, 8. Dezember 2011, 18 Uhr, findet an der Heidelberg International Business Academy ein Informationsabend zu Touristik und Eventmanagement statt.

Die Schülerinnen und Schüler erhalten Detailinformationen über Tourismus, einen der weltweit größten Wirtschaftszweige und erfahren, was der Studiengang Eventmanagement beinhaltet.

The importance of designing assessment and giving feedback so that it has a positive effect on learning was the main focus of the “Enhancing Asessment and Feedback” workshop which I attended in Birmingham, England, in June of this year. 

The workshop, organized by the Higher Education Academy’s Business, Management, Accountancy and Finance Subject Centre and Oxford Brookes University’s ASKe Project team,  presented the key considerations in assessment in higher education using an evidence-based approach.   Theory was closely linked to practice and case studies and discussions provided opportunity for reflection and action planning.

One of the high points of the workshop was the interspersing of group-sharing activities on issues such as engaging students with assessment criteria and creative and effective forms of giving feedback, where colleagues exchanged ideas and experiences and discussed options for improving current practice.

It is planned that in the coming academic year lecturers at the HIB Academy will also have the chance to discuss this and other current themes in higher education during the Staff Development Seminars (2008-2009).

Earlier this month, Matthew Kershaw (Academic Director) and Klaus Klabouch (Head of Department, Business & Management) attended the Open University Validation Services annual conference in Leeds, UK. This event brings together representatives of all the Open University’s accredited institutions around the world, including from Singapore, Kuwait, Bulgaria, and of course Germany. Following an opening address from Lord David Puttnam, Chancellor of the Open University and renowned filmmaker, there were presentations and workshops by leading British professors on: the internationalisation of higher education and the Bologna process, managing change in a higher education context, and achieving academic excellence. This was a valuable opportunity to discuss ideas, challenges and developments with colleagues from a wide range of institutions, and to exchange examples of good practice in enhancing the student experience.  

As the HIB is an Open University partner institution, HIB students are welcome to use OU Library and Support Services to support their studies and research (see the Research Portal in ecampus).

Here are a few of my photos from the Moodlemoot 2008 Conference which, as I indicated in a previous comment, was an enriching experience for me as both a teacher and an educational researcher. I enjoyed presenting the way in which I apply my theoretical understanding of the use of technology to promote student learning at the HIB Academy.
